Holy Sellout, Batman!

Monday, October 29th, 2007

So, there I was on Saturday afternoon, preparing to watch the 3PM performance of Polly Princess and the Penniless Fry Cook.  I had my dear friend next to me and a video camera in front of me.  When all of a sudden me and my camera were kicked out of our luxury seats to make way for paying customers, leaving poor Jacob to watch the show surrounded by age-appropriate audience members.

Uh…

We sold out.

Like, really sold out.

Like, we’d have needed to set up folding chairs if one more person had shown up.

Wow.

Depression cat is feeling much better this week.

Fear not–we were able to record on Sunday, as there was a much smaller crowd due to the sunny, park-friendly weather.

ONE WEEK LEFT, peeps.  Saturday only. 1PM and 3PM.

And if this past weekend is any indication, you should really buy your tickets in advance.

Tuckaberry Productions is gearing up for its most ambitious project ever

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is our largest production to date, and we are thrilled to begin rehearsals next week.

But we need your help!  There are fairies to be sewn, donkeys to be tailed, and insurance to be renewed. While our most recent fundraiser was wildly fun and well-received, attendance was quite low, as is our checking account.

So to help fund our next production we are asking everyone reading this to consider a donation of $10.00.  As you all know, ticket sales barely cover the cost of space rental, and putting on a 15-person production is a costly operation.  We rely very heavily on the community’s support to fund our shows, and right now we need your support more than ever.

Our goal is to raise One Hundred Hamiltons by the end of November—that’s $1,000—enough to keep us afloat until our next fundraising event.

Ten dollars: it’s less than the cost of a movie ticket.  Less than a shirt at H&M.  Less than a couple of double caramel lattes with whip cream and chocolate shavings from Starbucks.

Ten dollars: it’s enough to help create a quality work of classical theatre for kids and grownups alike in Brooklyn, New York.

I love the Drudge Report.

le sigh.

So we had an unprecedented number of people prepaid for our Saturday 3PM show this past Thursday.

And then the sales stopped.

And there were virtually no walkups.

And attendance was lower than opening weekend.

I feel like we’re losing ground.

And by we I mean me.

And an old (distant) friend is gone since Friday.   Mourning for someone you’ve not spoken with in years is a strange feeling.  It made this whole weekend seem, well, frivolous.  And by this weekend, I mean the past couple of years.

And eating two enormous dinners last night after a weekend of gorging myself still didn’t manage to fill the void in my soul.  I don’t know why I keep thinking that will work.

Saturday! Be there!! It’s going to be totally awesome!!!
